Packaging and Labeling has been long known to occupy a critical role in the pharmaceutical supply chain, particularly during product launches because of their unique position between the conception of a product and its realization and distribution.
Changes brought about by AI and machine learning provide opportunities to improve cycle time and reduce error frequency. Incorporating Packaging and Labeling’s role in driving process improvements requires that organizations take a proactive approach in decision-making, process mapping, and resource allocation to increase efficiency and production capability.
Pharmaceutical manufacturing is entering the AI era, with production increasing at a rate that was not possible with conventional manufacturing. Packaging and Labeling requirements, as with other supply chain activities, will likewise be affected, and with it the possibility for increased errors. Effective controls are necessary to enable Packaging and Labeling to keep pace with increased demand.

Michael Esposito brings three decades of pharmaceutical industry experience and more than twenty years specializing in GMP training and document management. Having worked with Wyeth, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson’s McNeil division, he has led major training initiatives, including consent decree remediation programs, and is known for translating complex compliance expectations into practical operational practices.
